For the 1st few years I ran it, I had the Breather off the Fuel pump boss just vented to a tube to the ground. And a Breather Filter on Valve Cover which was always getting saturated with oil. Kept noticing puddles under the car when parked. last year I decided to get a Catch Can to try and prevent that. Pretty sure it has a rear Seal kit installed on it. Haven't noticed a lot of oil from that area. I tried to Vent the Valve Cover to a port on the intake. Realized that was a mistake, as it smoked like CRAZY. Rick, it does have ports on the Carbs, right now they are just joined with a Hose. I haven't tried going from the VC to a Metal PCV can to the Ports on the Carbs yet. I'll have to find a Y hose piece. Ron, Guess it's possible that it broke the inner spring quite some time ago and it's been just using the outer spring on that cylinder until the Retainer finally gave up. Side note, Ordered new Higher rate Springs and Hardened Steel Retainers. Since the Rocker shaft and Rockers have to be removed and the 4 Head nuts have to be removed, should I leave the other 5 tight or loosen them slightly? If I leave them tight, when re-assembling, loosen and retorque all of them? Thanks all! Brian S. Are you having any leakage from the rear scroll "seal"? (Or do you have a proper seal back there)? It sounds like you need a little vacuum on the engine. Can you set up a vacuum line from the valve cover to the intake manifold that would replace the line that is usually from the timing cover to the intake manifold? It shouldn't take too much vacuum to relieve the pressure in the engine. Especially if you have an otherwise healthy engine. Kevin V. Brian, The original factory setup with those carbs is a hose from the timing chain cover canister directly to the carbs, no PCV valve. You don't have a timing chain cover canister, so I would run a hose from the fuel pump boss to a "Y" and then to the carbs. That type of PCV system works best out of all that BL used to reduce crankcase pressures and leaks. Easy enough to try and you can always remove it if it doesn't work. Moss sells the Y piece. At Gingerman Raceway last month one of the guys had to replace a broken rocker shaft on his Bugeye engine. He just removed the pedastals, replaced the broken shaft, and then retorqued the pedastal bolts. Ran great the rest of the weekend and whipped my butt as usual. :-) Rick > On Jun 4, 2022, at 1:47 PM, brian S via Spridgets wrote: > ? > It's been on ongoing thing, but I think it got worse last year. I'm thinking tho, that it's putting so much pressure and oil out the fuel pump boss that adding vacuum to that, it will just pull that oil into the Carbs. We'll see. "At Gingerman Raceway last month one of the guys had to replace a broken rocker shaft on his Bugeye engine. He just removed the pedastals, replaced the broken shaft, and then retorqued the pedastal bolts. Ran great the rest of the weekend and whipped my butt as usual. :-)" Rick Good to know! The new ones came in last night, and for the life of me I can't figure out how the little plastic part that the adjuster bolt goes into fits on the headlamp body. It looks like it should be keyed and just press in, but it doesn't want to go. What is the trick to getting these installed? Instead of just replacing the one, I figured that if 1 failed, how long would it be til another one did? I might not get so lucky that if another one did fail, would it drop a Valve and destroy the engine? I got a set of Minispares 200lb springs and Upgraded hardened Steel retainers and keepers. The aren't expensive, even with shipping and got them in a few days. I tried to do it keeping the head on the car and using a Valve Spring compressor. I drained the radiator but forgot to drain the block. DOH! After pulling the Rocker Shaft got a bunch of anti-freeze into the cylinders. Spun it over with the plugs out and shot AF a VERY far distance! Oops Found out that trying to do this by oneself is Difficult to say the least. You really need at least 3 hands. 2 to keep the Spring compressor on the spring and another to get the keepers out and back in. Could only get 6 using the screw type, it wouldn't fit in the space on the outer 2 valves on the Aluminum head. Wound up pulling the head and going to a friends and using his Big C clamp style one. Probably should have waited for him to get home and done this from the start. Much easier! I mean, pulling the head on these cars is pretty simple. Got it back together and started right up, so I guess I did ok. Old springs all looked good, none were broken. Guess the retainer just failed. Thanks all for the tips and advice! Brian S. Thinking WTF is that from? Move around to the other side of the engine and see pic #2, Well crap, that's not good. Car ran fine the night before. Guess I got lucky that what was left still held on to get me home. I believe they are Titanium Retainers. Super light, and not bendable. Don't know a ton about this engine. What I do know. built in 2000. I acquired it in 2014. Sat unused awaiting owner to install in a Bugeye Project and passed away. 1275, .030 over, 9.75:1, Kent 266 cam w/ Belt drive, 1.5:1 roller rockers. Pierce Alum head, HS2s w ported intake. Don't know Spring manufacturer. How do I go about finding a replacement Retainer? Do I have to get a full set? Titanium ones are $200+ a set If I have to get a full set, can I use hardened Steel ones? Engine doesn't see 8000 rpm, 7000 occasionally. ? Any insight appreciated. Thanks, Brian S.
