Ouch. Nothing like a little compression leak to rob your power. I hear 
some people claim they can get that engine out in 2 hours. Having done 
it a few times, I'm not sure I believe that.

I can get the engine out in less than an hour, including removing the forward tilt Bugeye bonnet.   But I?ve had more practice than most too.   ?

Now that things are starting to look up relative to the pandemic, it's time to get out and start doing some things again. So far this year, I personally have been to one vintage sports car racing event and one British car show, and now I have planned a three day driving tour for classic Minis through the mountains of southwestern Virginia for late May. While there are many other motorsports related events on my calendar for this year, I wanted to mention just the following two events that I will be attending with my Bugeye which may also be of mutual interest to other Spridget owners.??August 13-15: VSCDA Vintage Grand Prix at Grattan Raceway in Belding, MI.This event will include the VSCDA Summer Party and the Season Finale of the Sprite/Midget Racing Series of which a certain number of racers who frequent this site participate in.?Let's get together at Grattan with a?nice turnout of Spridget street cars in order to meet, greet and cheer on some of our friends.?Grattan - VSCDA??September 10-12: The 30th Annual British Invasion in Stowe VT.This is one of the long standing granddaddy's of all east coast British car shows, and never fails to deliver the goods for any British car owner or enthusiast. It's a fun filled multi-day event which is embraced by the entire town of Stowe including its residents and businesses. One of the featured marques at this years show will be the Austin Healey, so wouldn't it be great to see a whole bunch of our Sprites on the show field.

I know this has been discussed before, but does anybody have any current
recommendations or warnings for car transport companies?  My aunt just
recently passed away from Cancer and my father needs to transport a car from
Flagstaff to the Seattle area.  My Aunt has a beautiful '58 Austin Healey
100/6 that will probably eventually make its way up here, but right now we
need to transport my Grandfathers fully restored '69 VW beetle.  It is not
capable of making the drive at the moment due to sitting during my Aunt's
illness so it will need to transported.  I have looked into options using
U-Haul and have a quote from Reliable Transport of $2083.  I was just
wondering if anyone else had recommendations.

 

Thanks for any input and sorry for the lack of LBC content.

If you enquire online, be very careful not to contact a broker. Most of the sites online are brokers who will in turn send your info to hundreds of independent truckers who will badger you with text messages every day for about a year.

I want $1,500. as that is what I paid for it. Clean clear NJ  title is
in my name.
I have double that with shipping and storage but I just want it in good
hands and hopefully one of our members that is on a budget. I think $1,500

Several years ago at a Moses event I was in a conversation 
with Gerry Coker, and John Sprinzel was looking on. 
I was telling Gerry about the construction of my mews 
which was for my Sprites. John's eyes lit up as he reminisced 
about his mews in London. His enthusiasm and optimism were 
an inspiration! 

He will be missed...

New to me!  Linda G decided she had one project too many. I've been wanting one for decades, and her price was too good to say "No" to. I was the lucky B*d that made her the first offer. I left NH at 5:45am Saturday, drove down to New Jersey with a U-Haul auto transporter, we sealed the deal, loaded the car up, and I arrived back home around 8:30pm. Long day. Too much holiday traffic, light rain slowing things more, TomTom GPS leading me astray. It's wasn't fun, but today I am a happy camper. More to follow as I assess the car and make a plan.

Anybody have one?  Contemplating getting new long pins and the bushings on the stub axles have seen better days. Any advice about what I should or should not do?

I was honest with them and told them (their web site) a 1960 Sprite and they said it would fit. From this list, I knew the tires would squeeze the inside edges of the carrier rails. I did not know the ramps up to the rails were a bit wider, so only 1/2 the tire would ride the ramp. But, you can move the toes of the ramps in towards the middle, so the tires start off entirely on the ramp. One highly recommended tool I used was a Warn PullzAll winch, along with some ratcheting straps and motorcycle tie-down straps. Getting the Bugeye up the ramps and onto the rails was a matter of pushing a button. They also make a battery powered one, which may be better than relying on having an outlet nearby.

As for the 100, I'm trying to talk one of my kids into taking it, just to make room in the barn for the Bugeye restoration. I've owned the 100 since 1974. It needs a new frame; $8K and more for shipping. The Bugeye, it needs floors, sills, doglegs, and more. But that's still less than $1K in sheet metal.

I'm ready to trash it. Coming back over the Tappan Zee, sorry, Mario M Cuomo Bridge, I knew I wanted Saw Mill Parkway, but "we" missed that exit. Then I looked for I-684. As I passed the exit, the TomTom showed it 1/4 mile ahead, then refreshed itself (satellite signal lost?) to tell me I missed the exit, recalculating. Later I found myself on the Merritt Parkway, no trailers allowed. I got off when I found a numbered route and the word "North". By then I was livid. But I eventually made it home.

Every time I try to rent an auto transport trailer from U-Haul their computer tells me a Spridget won't fit and refuses to rent to me.  And I use a Suburban for towing, so that's not the issue.  Maybe they fixed their software because as we all know a Spridget does fit.  :-)

I have a trailer especially made for Spridgets for hauling my Bugeye vintage racer and I use a cheapie HF winch for loading and unloading.  Much easier on this old guy's back.
