Changed the exhaust silencer (single RC40 back box) yesterday. The old box wasn't blowing but tatty and I 'life' them at 5 years and it was 6 years old. The system pipe is a home made stainless steel pipe with a mating flange added and it was trouble fitting it due to my using a saddle clamp in the past and now using a Mikalor clamp. Eventually everything went together ok. Still, at some point in the future I think I'll buy some new stainless steel tube and make a new system pipe. Or maybe I'll get some Ti or inconconel tube, no, that's just a fantasy, it will be stainless. I adjusted the back brakes ready for an MOT that's still not happening, a few weeks back and one of the nuts fastening the drum (car has wire wheels) didn't go on that well and while I used a new nut it looked like the stud threads were damaged. I didn't like the look of any of the theads on the studs and not sure if I've over tightened them in the past or had a rogue nut going from stud to stud over time. I decided to replace all 4 (but purchased 5 studs). The hub is a double bearing and I think the studs were new when I made the swap from single bearing hubs (18+ years ago). The hub nut came off ok using the very rarely used and correct size Snap-on socket and a breaker bar. The studs took a bit of persuasion and if the threads weren't already rubbish, could have been re-used. The new studs took a bit of persuasion to go in but did eventually. Everything went back together ok and I even had time for a test drive. Four weeks since the Sprite was last driven or I drove (its my only car) and everything felt good. My new mirror bracket (same as the other one but sticks out further) seems ok but the mirror pointed down a bit. Ran the car to one ten without trying to hard (it does one ten almost by accident) but didn't want to go any quicker on a test drive and have the exhaust fall off or anything. Got back and washed it - dirt from January's necessary drive in the wet (had to go to a funeral) finally washed off and put in the garage and adjusted the mirror. 'Course the handbrake isn't quite right now and I'll adjust that in a week or so's time. Daniel (England) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Either the Prawl or the ratchet groves or both were cut flat instead of being undercut. That undercut is needed to insure that the ratchet can't release with weight on the stands. If you are worried about your stands (and you should be, no matter where you bought them), you can check them easily. With the Prawl in EACH of the groves, lift the release lever. The upper part should raise up as the undercut lifts the ram out of the groove. You should do this check on each of the groves every time you use your stands. Even if they were made correctly they can wear over time. I need the distance from the engine back plate to the pressure plate throw out bearing surface.? Or some may refer to it as the " stack height"?I am working on initial measurements to utilise an annular throwout bearing with a rib case transmission.? I do not have a stock flywheel to attach to the 1 engine I have sitting ( siezed presently) to get the measurement. Now the measurement does not need to be extremly accurate !? ?A fractional inch is perfect!!!??Developments on this project could be verrrry interesting...Thank you!ChuckSent from my LG Mobile -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Try running a jumper wire to the brake switch from the battery and see if that illuminates the brake lights.? That way you can possibly eliminate the circut from switch rearward as culprit.??If you test with a continuity light or a DVOM at the switch for power that is your best start of jumping the 2 terminals did not illuminate the brake lights.??If you have power to the switch and jumping the terminals does not give you brake lights ?The next connection is the plug for brake light wires where the rear harness meets the main harness up behind the right side of the dash. It's a double bullet connector in one of those mystery black tube connectors.? If that is corroded or dirty you may have power coming from the switch but not being conveyed at that point to the rear harness. If you check at the brake switch and find no power coming to the switch find its other end at the fuse box ( I believe) and be certain its a good clean connection .? ?Check continuity on the fuse.? ?Power in and power out as well as the fuse box with a good fuse in place.??One of these links is not like the other see if you can guess which one it is....Chuck.??Random tearing stuff apart is just going to be agrivating and give way to a heck of a lot of messy stuff to clean up , put back in place and put away...Been there...done that...and have owned the same darn Bugeye since 1974.....
