References: Message-ID: I just experienced something I do not recall ever encountering.??I took a cast iorn water pump out of a 1275 that did not leak.? Leakage is not the issue.? ?I put the pump in another 1275 .? Cleaned both gasket surfaces , new gasket , new bypass hose & clamps.? Put the pump on the motor and go have dinner while the pulley paint dries.? Head out to put the pulley on and attempt to rotate the pump and it's locked up!? I stuck two bolts in the pump hub and try to turn it.? It moves but it's grinding itself on something.? Take it apart...the impeller has a raised ring on the back side and it's shiney from my rotating it .? ?I try to disc grind the ring a bit and it now rotates bolted in place .? ? I saw no manufacturers marks on it at all.? So has anyone encountered this before?? ?Does this pump require an extra thick gasket or double gaskets ?? ?I just find it odd it comes out of 1 motor and into another one and it did not fit.ChuckSent from my LG Mobile -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Late 80s mazda or mitsubitshi. - Next, while at the bone yard pick up an alternator bracket from a GM car or truck, it is curved, not straight like your generator bracket. - Stop at a hardware store and pick up a 3/8 X 8 inch long bolt, nut, and lock washer. Also ask the clerk for a 3/8 ID X 6 inch long galvanized pipe nipple, and a new sharp 3/8 drill bit if you do not own one. - Back at the Sprite, remove the generator and bracket from the front of the engine. - Hold the alternator up into position and site the curved bracket for length, you may have to cut it down. Keep the slotted part towards the alternator, cut the other end where it bolts to the engine. - Now you may have to drill a 3/8 hole in the bracket to fit your mounting point on the front of the engine, be sure your stock size fan belt will fit before you drill. Now drill out the 5/16 " hole on the waterpump ear to 3/8". Also drill out the rear mounting bracket hole to 3/8". - Insert the 8" long bolt through the rear bracket into the alternator and through the waterpump ear. ( this replaces the 2 5/16 " bolts from the gen.) do not put the nut on yet. - With the long bolt in place measure the space between the rear bracket and the alt., cut a piece of pipe to take up the space, this is better then a lot of washers, next cut another piece of pipe to fit in between the alternator. Run the 3/8 drill bit through the pipes so that the bolt fits snug inside the pipe. - Mount the alternator tighten the fan belt check clearance at the right shock it should be close but not touching it. Now for the wiring - The large wire from the generator now goes to the large lead of the alternator. - The small (field) wire goes on one of the small terminals, this will be your indicator warning lamp wire. - At the voltage regulator remove the wire from terminal ( F ) remove both wires from terminal ( D ) connect the smaller of the ( D ) wires to the wire from ( F ). - Connect the larger of the ( D ) wires to the wires from terminals ( A ) and ( A!) The only wire left on your regulator should be ( E ) the ground , it's not needed. - Start up the car and check for smoke leaking out of your wiring harness, if no smoke you are successful. You can remove your regulator or use it as a junction box for the new wiring . If you use it as a Junction box you will have to cut out the guts, just be sure that the large brown, brown with blue, and brown with yellow wires are connected together, and that the small brown with yellow is connected to the small brown with green ( field to indicator lamp.) If you do NOT agree with these ideas, if you are "mechanically challenged" or are just down right "stupid" I suggest you perchase New parts from a supplier of your choice and have a local shop do this work for you. Ever since 9/11 I have kept a diverse supply of canned and dried food along with some water and a few cartons of UHT milk - it would keep the family going for about 3 weeks. I have a note of the use by dates and routinely an old tin comes out of the cupboard to be used and a new tin goes in the cupboard to replace it. Of course we do always have other food in the 'regular' cupboard and we have a small freezer. So, I'm constantly able to remind the rest of my family about this in case they need reassurance. We have few elderly neighbours and we can share or shop for them if they need us to We call it toilet paper and I think you might mostly call it toilet tissue and not to put too fine a point on it it's what you wipe your arse with. In normal times we have occasionally had a martial row when the person who was supposed to buy some let stocks expire. Kitchen roll makes a poor substitute and can block your household plumbing/outside drain and sewer. We have a reasonable stock at present but I'm old enough to know that know is a good time to hang onto a few more old newspapers than we do normally. Of course I'm not sure we have any 'bulldog clips' but I think we could manage without if necessary. I guess other folk must have softer backsides than I do or worry about seeing a reflection that includes newspaper print when they look in the mirror. The train I take to and from work each day is now almost empty. Most of my office is working from home but I want to stay at work for as long as possible. IT hasn't been great for everyone and here at home while I have broadband it runs on copper wire to the telephone pole outside my house and most likely to the green 'GPO' box at the end of my straight and maybe still copper to the exchange in the town centre. So apart from what you can read at the BBC news site (which I think has some bias) things are unusual here. I almost forgot - motor racing has been cancelled and the churches have closed. So maybe by a little extra now and again before panic buying takes off in your part of the world and if 'Bird Flu Pandemic' (practically the same book as 'Corona Virus' isn't your sort of thing maybe give a helpful vote to the positive reviews or read 'Rich Girl' - more of a gear head story. 'Course even if I sell vast amounts of books and can actually afford to cross the pond for a meet or an o-shit - there might not be many planes flying. Some stores have empty shelves, but this is slowing improving as the hoarding idiots run out of money. My wife and I will be fine as we always have a good supply of stuff on hand. Everything is pretty much closed down except for essential things like grocery stores and pharmacys. I don't drink so it doesn't bother me, but the bars are all closed. Restaurants are closed except for those that do take-out business. One side effect that I don't really understand is that the price of gasoline has dropped considerably. Down to $1.64 per US gallon. But since we're self isolating at home we don't need gas. :-) I brought my race car home from the storage barn yesterday as our first race weekend is scheduled for May 1st. So far it's still on, but that may change. Ron keep up the good work. Also Ron is there anything that I can do in helping your company to get more of these actuator's produced? I just want to help. Lastly sorry I haven't been checking with the group list in such a long time, I've been pretty busy teaching (now virtually) and often use FaceBook as images help more with our Spridget work. Updates here in the NYC/NJ area: I just received good news from my good friend and teaching colleague that her daughter is pregnant with the family's first grandchild. The not so good news is she is a nurse in the critical care pediatric unit in a Washington DC hospital, she is due in September and the mom-to-be is young (20-something). Our new single mom, school nurse is also a part-time nurse in a local hospital, she said they are begging for part time nurses to add more hours and she is nervous as PPE is running very short. If you are like me you have loved ones across the globe, and many at different ages and health conditions, mine are in NYC. I love this group for the reality check as I always get great advice and above all happiness. Please check in every so often to know you are all safe and well and ask for help when needed. As for me I love tent/camping and I am gathering leaves for what we campers use for you-know-what...............wink! Yes I'll burry it when I'm done. We have few elderly neighbours and we can share or shop for them if they need us to We call it toilet paper and I think you might mostly call?it toilet tissue and not to put too fine a point on it it's what you wipe your arse with.? In normal times we have occasionally had a martial row when the person who was supposed to buy some let stocks expire.? Kitchen roll makes a poor substitute and can block your household plumbing/outside drain and sewer.? We have a reasonable stock at present but I'm old enough to know that know is a good time to hang onto a few more old newspapers than we do normally.? Of course I'm not sure we have any 'bulldog clips' but I think we could manage without if necessary.? I guess other folk must have softer backsides than I do or worry about seeing a reflection that includes newspaper print when they look in the mirror. The train I take to and from work each day is now almost empty.? Most of my office is working from home but I want to stay at work for as long as possible.? IT hasn't been great for everyone and here at home while I have broadband it runs on copper wire to the telephone pole outside my house and most likely to the green 'GPO' box at the end of my straight and maybe still copper to the exchange in the town centre. I don't have money worries but things can change fast and there are many workers over hear in the wrong kind of job which now amounts to no job. The virus doesn't actually seem to kill that many people and I expect to live but if I don't I'm insured.? I'm also 'saved' (from my sins) so don't have to worry about where I'm going to end up - Heaven, or no-where if I'm mistaken in my beliefs. So apart from what you can read at the BBC news site (which I think has some bias) things are unusual here. I almost forgot - motor racing has been cancelled and the churches have closed. So maybe by a little extra now and again before panic buying takes off in your part of the world and if 'Bird Flu Pandemic' (practically the same book as 'Corona Virus' isn't your sort of thing maybe give a helpful vote to the positive reviews or read 'Rich Girl' - more of a gear head story.? 'Course even if I sell vast amounts of books and can actually afford to cross the pond for a meet or an o-shit - there might not be many planes flying.? And the winner in all this is - The Environment and the toilet paper manufacturers - mostly likely short term for both. Remember to count the turns when you remove the tie rod end.? You may have to still do a front end alignment, but that's easy.? Just take a string and compare the tire edges in the front to the back until you get 0-1/8th inch wider in the back. Good luck.
