One touch of the throttle and the pedal dropped to the floor! Cable broke at the carb. I'd been careful to not talk much of a pending sale around the car, but somehow it just KNEW, and it wasn't going to make the separation easy on me! THIS is why I was reluctant every time a prospective buyer asked "will I be able to jump in and drive it _XXX_ miles back home?" I remembered a conversation on here from years back - probably from Frank - about using a bicycle shift/brake cable. Quick trip across town and back, a cheap $4 to the local bike shop, and maybe 3 minutes work and it's "go time" again! This is the second time I've let this car go. The new-to-Spridgets buyer is from northern Illinois, 3 hours away. I doubt I'll ever see the car again, let alone have the opportunity to buy it a 3rd time. ;) Great bunch of guys and gals here on the Spridget list. I haven't been "active" on here for several years but will miss the camaraderie, and the comedy. I have passed info about the list, and the Spridgets Facebook group, to the new owners so you may have a new member soon. They've had impacts large and small on many people with many various cars.? It's been a labour of love since I took over around 1989, and I hope to continue as long as I am able. Hope I don't drop dead suddenly with no provisions made for the continuation of Team.Net. It's nice when people show appreciation for the efforts involved.? Back in the early days having a fast network at home was rare and expensive, these days seems like everyone and their cat has one.? So no more fund drives, though occasionally folks do make use of the donate link to show their support. And even though you might unsubscribe, when the mood strikes you can always check out http://autox.team.net/archive to see what's been happening on your favorite lists. mjb. This way I can put the wiring back in the car, and put tail lights and the boot trim on the body along with hang and adjust the doors with the latches .?? ??As in any project , there are pieces of this car everywhere.?? Lots of small boxes and zip lock bags with hardware and cryptic notes in them.????I'll be painting the front end probably within 30 days.?? ??I'm a bit anxious to see this car with some trim on it!?? ??The car came here as a pretty bare shell as far as trim goes.?? For me to see it with paint and ANYTHING bolted to it will be pretty darn cool!?? ??Eventually I'll have pictures of the car starting to look like a car!ChuckSent from my LG Mobile -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Of the 50 Healeys that I counted during the car show on the boardwalk, there was an impressive showing of 11 Bugeyes and 3 square body. I polled a handful of the Sprite owners to see who may have been on the Spridgetlist but I came up empty. If anyone reading this was present, please let us know. This event started late Sunday afternoon with a drive down to Cape May for a sunset whale & dolphin watching cruise. Although sitings never happened, the weather, sunset and camaraderie were outstanding. Monday was the road rally and a wine & cheese charity auction, Tuesday was the autocross, a BBQ buffet dinner and valve cover racing and Wednesday was the funkhana, the boardwalk car show and a reception and closing banquet. There were four tech sessions on various topics of interest and four routes identified for self-guided driving tours. Next years Encounter will be hosted by the Brandywine Region of AHS&TC on July 15-19 in Newark, Delaware. Howard Collins Virginia Beach, VA. I recommend you at least disconnect the drive shaft at the diff flange so only the rear end rotates. Don't forget to tie it up so it doesn't slip out of the transmission. Make sure you have enough oil in the diff to lubricate the rear hub bearings. Also, in my? experience, if you elevate the front of the car (as on the dolly) you stand a good chance of the trans fluid running out the back, depending on how good the rear seal and splined connection are. Flat towing solves that problem but you still have to consider all the rotating parts. I flat towed my Bugeye autocross car for many miles back in the 60s and 70s behind my Barracuda 340 Formula S without any problems. If the rear wheels are on the ground while towing and the driveshaft is still connected, the only thing rotating in the gearbox will be the mainshaft.? None of the gears will be turning, the layshaft will NOT be turning, will NOT be splashing oil around inside the transmission.? For the 50 mile distance you quote this will not be an issue, you aren't going to burn up the unlubricated bearings for such a short time.
