Well actually it's the second because I abandoned the first one part finished as it wasn't quite right. I'm pleased with the end result but I'll be making another one as this one isn't quite perfect. Yep, it does stick out a bit from the bodywork (just under 3 inches) but its supposed to because being close to the car's bodywork makes it much less aerodynamic (air sees a bigger bulge than the actual mirror). Very wet here so it may be a week before it gets road tested - the worst that can happen is that it vibrates and I need to use thicker aluminum sheet (this was 1.2mm) or stainless steel sheet. Moss and VB still have a good selection with decent prices, especially if you can get it on sale. A lot of the stuff you get from VB is actually a Moss part as VB is Moss' biggest customer. The last time I saw numbers VB accounted for 40% of Moss sales. That said, if Moss has something I want I usually buy it from Lbcarco. Little British Car Co. is a Moss dealer and the give a discount on Moss prices. Peter Caldwell is still the go to guy for dampers and I believe he is also a Moss reseller. I also buy from Winners Circle and Spridget Mania. For the last couple of years I've been buying stuff from England. With the threat of Brexit the pound has taken a beating in relation to the dollar and some real deals are available. Last year I bought a complete straight cut gearset for a ribcase trans from Mini Spares in England for $295 delivered to my door. And shipping with DHL Express is fast. I ordered the gears on Tuesday afternoon and they were delivered to my door at noon on Friday. :-) Rick Sent from my keyboard > On Nov 10, 2019, at 7:12 PM, Michael MacLean via Spridgets wrote: > > Keep asking the list first for parts before you go out to buy it at a store. She is not much interested in my Spridgets. Maybe because I bought her convertible VW. Anyway, I've parted out several cars and have some some parts lying about. So, post your needs and I'll see if I can help. I'm currently putting together a 62ish spridget so I have been digging through my parts stash and have a pretty good idea what I have lying about. Other people have mentioned common vendors, but I'd also second the suggestion about buying stuff from the UK at the moment. Also, you can check out http://www.sportscarpartsltd.com/ . Sometimes he has good prices on some of the more mundane stuff. Cheers, Trevor On Sun, Nov 10, 2019 at 8:01 PM Charlie Shelden via Spridgets < spridgets at autox.team.net> wrote: > Robert. Good to be back. Lots of good information there. Once we get a list together I'll post some of it to the list. Right now he's starting with the brakes. The drum brakes in the back had seized up and I figured that was a good place to start. The car had electric ignition on it and he pulled that apart a couple years ago without my help and we haven't been able to get that working again. I guess that is next on the list, along with new wheel bearings, neoprene bushings, etc. You name it, it needs work. The toughest thing is going to be cutting out and replacing all the rust. I'll try to get some pictures to post to get some feedback. We are also going to need a new roof to keep the rain out. The old one has shrunk and ripped. If anyone has a line on a reasonably priced replacement we'd appreciate it. Maybe in the spring an OSHIT would be a great idea if people are up for it. Thanks again! We're just north of Durham, NC. I don't know if there are any other list members in the area but an OSHIT would be great in the spring. He just started on the car yesterday so he has a ways to go, and it's getting cold here. We do have a garage now but it is used for my guitar building business. The car is now on a concrete pad in front of the garage. For years it sat on the gravel driveway which wasn't the best thing for it. I'm not sure if its still cheaper to buy it here and ship to the USA. I try to buy parts that really are made in Britain - the front wheel bearings I bought were expensive. Had the usual trouble with brake light switches and eventually bought a Goodridge banjo bolt switch that's lasted long enough to do the same thing again. Reconditioned brake calipers are more expensive that new ones but aside from my Sprite having MGB calipers I wanted stainless steel pistons - seems like no-one wants to see me those - I guess they'll just last so long I might not need to replace them. So I found an ebay vendor that rebuilds and paints calipers and used stainless steel pistons as I required. There are still the same challenges as before and now I'm more likely to recondition a part than buy new even if initially it seems more expensive. Tom Colby at Speedwell and APT, both in California are still trusted suppliers. I can?t recall grabbing the balancer or not, I think I simply grabbed the eBrake rods. The ebrake rods are different lengths as the later backing plates have the ebrake attaching in a different location than on the BE. Will the later backing plates and eBrake rods everything simply bolted up and fit. Nothing to cut and thread, no coupling nuts needed. The read brakes are much easier to install and that coupled with a 3/4? Master and 3/4? wheel cylinders provides Bugsy with perfect brake balance and east pedal pressure. I have a Geo Metro cooling fan here.? It came with the parts I retrieved with the car.? It's too large in every dimension to put into a cross flow aplication.? ?Actually the Geo fan assembly is on the huge side of fans I'm familiar with.? It's a big can style motor with a steel 4 blade fan ( looks like a household tabletop fan blade!) in a stamped steel shroud that is the size of the radiator core.? So I'm definitly not going to try to utilise that .? ?I do want a thermostatic fan control device.? It's not in the budget right now.? The Midget is already wired for a dash mounted on/off fan switch with indicator light.? Staging in line for hillclimbs and some street driving indicates the proper route is a thermostatically controlled fan just to be certain the car cools before it overheats.Chuck?Sent from my LG Mobile -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It's not a fresh import and seems to have been in the UK for a while, through the reg number comes out as a Yellow Triumph. A work colleague and friend has a 65 Mustang, says that the screeching noise might be the heater fan as it's about where the noise came from. I'm certain I saw some disconnected pipes for the air con but that are connected in the sale photos. Hi List, Well pondering marking the holes etc for my 1960s racing style door mirror bracket I was partway through making, I was interrupted by the sound of the air brakes of a truck outside my house, actually over the road from my house. On the back trailer was a large American car. Turned out my Polish (that's a person from the country of Poland) neighbour who recently bought a new-ish Porsche is now the owner of a 1970 (H reg) white Lincoln Continental. Delivery man kept thinking it was mine when I went out to have a look and take photos. Helped him get it unloaded but no petrol and wouldn't start. Neighbour went to get some petrol. Delivery man had a Snap-on powerpack but it wouldn't start - kept tripping it. Went to fetch my jump leads to find the delivery man, truck and trailer gone - just the car and my puzzled neighbour. Passer by pulls up and produces a power pack - less results than the Snap-on power back but discovers battery leads aren't tight (on the little 'Halfords' battery). I fetched some imperial spanners but the bolts are metric!. Tightened them up and no luck so passer-by suggests jump leads (he also thought it was my car). I get them from back in the house and passer-by has gone. Neighbour has his Audi and I let him connect the jump leads (his wife has appeared to run the Audi). Lincoln Continental Mk3 starts up after a while but with a graunching sound (stuck starter or air con or water pump or?) disconnect my leads and warm my cold hands on them. Engine stops suddenly (5L of petrol gone already?) and wouldn't start with neighbour re-connecting jump leads with the Audi engine still running (Mmm) - bad starter??. Pushed car towards his house (downhill, across my road with no lights other than my torch. So, another classic car in the neighbourhood (small neighbourhood too!). Neighbour seems keen but owns no tools that I know of! Neighbour and delivery man told me it was a 4.6 Litre engine (never head of one). Says 460 on the air filter - yep 460 cu in - what a beast - 7.5 litres! Boot lock is missing - I'll bet the neighbour wants to find one - anyone have one kicking around amongst their Spridget stash of spares? Or a workshop manual (in Polish?)? I'm amazed that someone who knows almost nothing about classic cars or any cars and doesn't own a set of jump leads goes out and buys something like this! I'm probably more interested in it than he is (almost certainly more than his wife is, or mine!). Specifically at the area where the rear springs mount. If there is that much rust in the boot, you need to do some serious poking and probing before you start putting a lot of time into a repair of one area only to find a "worse" area elsewhere. Look at the spring mount areas for the rear springs (front and rear mounts of the rear springs). Also check the rear of the floors where the floors meet the rear bulkhead. Floors are an easy fix, but if the spring boxes are shot, that can be a lot of work in fitting and welding. Kevin V.
