[Spridgets] Spridgets Digest, Vol 100, Issue 12

Hi from Australia, I have double bearing hubs on my car. The standard hand brake fittings all fit in and work correctly. Mine is a 1969 model used on track and for road use. The bearing seals are different from standard though. Cheers from Alex

I'm in the process of upgrading the rear axle in Frank's Midget.   I have a set of Winners CircleDouble bearing hubs.  I need a functional emergency brake for staging at hillclimbs.  I see a big problem with the hub interfering with the emergency brake equalizing bar and the brake return spring.  I see lots of re-engineering to get this all to come together and function.  Anyone go through this previously?Any constructive input will be well recieved.Thank you!ChuckSent from my LG MobileNever seen a parking brake on a Spridget with double bearing hubs.  No room for the standard mechanism.  Might be easier to engineer something that grabs the driveshaft.

Winners Circle in Cincinnati sells the wedges.  They are designed to lower the rear of a Spridget so you would have to install them "backwards" to raise the rear of your car.  They work by changing the angle of the springs in the spring box.  If you put the shim with the thick part at the front of the spring box it raises the car.  If you install the shim with the thick part at the rear of the spring box it lowers the car.

Linda,
Ron's springs are semi elliptic and won't work on your car.  Your car has 1/4 elliptic springs.  If your springs are in good condition you can adjust the height of the car with shims.  No need to replace the springs.

Before going further, it would be worth a look to see if Linda's car already has wedges installedand oriented to lower the ride height.

Time to fit 8 inch drums and not have that equalising bar.  Or modify to fit.  Over here there's no need for a handbrake on a hillclimb car because the starter's assistant holds the car with a wedge under one of the back wheel/tyres.
