The hole in the side is "fill up to the hole"
So there can't really be a fill from the top.

Best way is to jack the front of the car and then remove the plug
on the bottom to drain.  Replace the bottom plug and then remove the side
plug.
 
Then use a squeezable gear oil bottle fitted to some clear vinyl tubing into
the side hole fed from the engine bay.

The best oil I have found to use in the Datsun is ReadLine MT-90.
Anything else and the shifting is notchy.

I don't think so.  It seems like someone would have mentioned it
before if it was possible.
