[Spridgets] Later Mini -is price appropriate?

I took Tamara up to Ft. Collins recently in the MKII (got great mileage on the
way up-75 mi, 1.65 US gal) and stopped by the garage of an acquaintance that
does LBC reconstructions. He has a later (hidden hinge) Mini with a 1275 and a
turbo in it (turbo in the rear?), the owner has had problems keeping the head
gasket intact (Surprise), and is wanting to get out of it after the head gets
redone (again). the paint is fair, LHD, good interior, all of the S mods on
it, he said the owner wants $3k for it. Tamara REALLY wants it.
Is that a fair price? I paid $3k for my '58 BE not running 3 years ago.
