I installed a rear bearing today.  Everything went on OK, except I had an
extra screw.  Two can go in the brake drum, so I thought I had just forgotten
because the car has been sitting apart for a while. (Old age, you know.)  I
put the wheel on and felt pretty good about how it had all gone.  I turned
with a self-satisfied grin, and saw the axle leaning against the wall behind
me.
