Hal,

On second look, I think you're right.  The thumb on the hand on the footwell
appears to be facing downwards rather than upwards.  Pretty weird optical
illusion and at least the seller doesn't have to reweld the floors ;>/

With more than a little experience reading photographs, I think that it is
just a case of the lighting being confusing that makes it seem the foot well
is upside down.  Look at the reflection of the man's red hat in the picture. 
Almost certainly that would not show up if the well sloped up.  Look at the
next couple of photos and you will see that the front  (with respect to the
car) of all the transverse channels (grooves, whatever) are dark, as is the
front of the well.  The pictures show them almost certainly as below the floor
pan. This is another hint that the well is indeed a well.

We know that "photographs never lie" but on the other hand things ain't
always what they seem.
