Ignore the book.  Set to 8 degrees.  Drive hard.  If it doesn't ping, 
advance 2 degrees. Drive hard.  If it doesn't diesel, and it doesn't ping, 
You're good.  If it pings, or diesels, back off  until the pinging/dieseling 
stops.  Ideal timing for your fuel/engine/altitude is maximum advance 
without pinging under load when hot.
