Brad, et al,
The American public and their elected representatives tried something like
this in the last century.  It was called Prohibition and it didn't work.  It
is a perfect example of how a vocal minority can hijack the government for
their own special interests.  People are attempting the same thing today on
both the left and the right.  A ban such as you suggest is possible would be
a non-starter.  Where you ARE loosing your rights is in the recent Supreme
Court decision allowing that corporations have a right to free speech.  It
is only a matter of time until we have a government of the corporations, by
the corporations, and for the corporations.  Then my friends, you got
troubles.
