Hi all,

Just wanted to drop a note to update my strange starter woe.
It appears my original Lucas starter needs a rebuild.
I took it out and tried bench testing it,
it alternately will not spin, spin slow or spin normally.

So I thought I would try a gear reduction starter, as I have pretty high
compression.
I didn't want to spend $190 or so, so I thought I would try
a Trooper starter.
Found one on Fleabay, rebuilt, for $32 plus shipping, total $41.25 to my
door!!!
Figured it was worth a shot.
I had to massage the passenger side footwell a bit as it was just touching.
Aussie Andrew had previously said, he thought it was because of his
5 speed conversion. I don't think the conversion is the problem, I have a 1098
and a ribcase.
After I got the wiring figured out, (Thanks Phil)
you have to connect the normal heavy black wire from the solenoid underneath,
and add a smaller wire, from the same spot on the solenoid and run it to the
spade connector underneath the starter.

It works great!
I also cleaned up the ground connections....
Now I just have to figure out why it won't run, but that is another post.
The one I got is Ebay item #170466956201
or
