And it is not really exploitation in their view, since they would otherwise 
put 10 to 12 hours days for even less money.  From  their perspective, these

are really good jobs.

To go with this thread, I read in the NY Times that many factories are 
trying to start hiring again, but the factory jobs have become more 
technical - mechanized and computerized.  One person interviewed said they 
had something like 3500 applicants and only found 47 who were minimally 
qualified (not sure of the exact numbers), when they needed many more. 
They had to have ninth grade math skills and be able to read blueprints. 
This is not rocket science that requires a college degree; this is basic 
high school stuff.  What a sad commentary on our culture and educational 
system.
