As a fan of L series Datsun engine's I can attest to the fact that timing chain stretch on a overhead cam engine will significantly affect perfomance. Datsun had a system to easily reindex the cam to compensate for chain stretch and doing so could easily be felt in the "seat of the pants". Kurt.
