Rivets are 1/8 inch Aluminum.  I'm guessing 1/4 inch grip.

As for the rattling, I wasn't worried about hearing it so much as just 
leaving the job unfinished.  Not only do I have some hearing loss (just ask 
my wife), but the rusted out muffler is surely making it worse.  The Rice 
Boy Hondas around here got nothing on my Midget.

What contact adhesive have you used?  3M 77?
