Next year, cut a large evergreen branch for Christmas. Anchor the branch
base about half-way up the wall(s) in a corner and nail the rest to the
ceiling. Don't fight a cat's instinct; you won't win.

Our cat is somewhat less than perfect and won't be getting these under the
Christmas tree.  OTOH, if he touches the friggin' tree one more time, he may
become a perfect wheel chock.
