Ummm.... Not quite correct David.  Coriolis effect is reversed in the
southern hemisphere. The problem is that this effect is only noticeable for
large scale rotations. Hence, for water going down a drain or other smaller
circulations, Coriolis effect is negligible.  However, for atmospheric
circulations (high pressure systems and low pressure systems) the Coriolis
effect becomes significant so that air circulates in the opposite direction
around highs and lows in the southern hemisphere. Ergo = Northern Hemisphere
lows circulate in a counter clockwise (anticlockwise for our foreign
friends) direction and Southern Hemisphere lows circulate in a clockwise
direction.
