You said: "...spark all the way to the cap, but not to the cylinders." Using plug wires, (off plugs) are you getting spark when grounding the wire? Spark jumping to head or ??? If no spark, what is the clearance between rotor and distributor contact? Use clay or putty to check. And you are sure you're not grounding out the points?
