you could use as a format for the rebuild.

One of my favourite 'tricks' is to replace the brushes the wrong way round 
and one of the corners between the side and working surfaces wedges between 
one of the armature gaps.  (red face!)  You could try lifting the brushes 
and seeing if it spins....
