I don't know anything about wire wheels. But I recently repaired my rubber roof with special tape that would seem to be ideal. It is 1 mm thick, smooth plastic or rubber on one side, and very thick and gooey adhesive on the other with a peel-off backing. No name on the roll. Check roofing supply stores. Michael Rowe
