[Spridgets] Gasket Query

My dad was a Lorry Driver in the UK (translation = Trucker).
He taught me to put a thin smear of grease on both sides of the head 
gasket before torqueing the nuts...
He claimed the grease baked well enough and hard enough to give a 
great seal.
It's always worked for me...
