Pull #1 plug, turn motor over by hand, you should have compression
evident by air rushing out of the plug hole when dizzy rotor is about
to point to #1.
If you install the cam 180* out, won't it still work because it
rotates 180* for every 360* of crank rotation?  You'd just have to
re-do the plug wires, right?
Or, am I losing my mind?

You can't install the cam 180 out.  If the timing marks on the gears line up 
you are good to go.  The dizzy drives off the camshaft, so the only thing 
that could be 180 out is the dizzy.
