[Spridgets] No LBC - Miata question

I don't recall a mention of year, but in my Haynes manual covering
1990-1997, the main fuse (80amp) connects to the negative ground of the
"Main Fuse Box". Then it runs a white wire to the ignition switch and
alternator. That is all it supplies. I can send a scan of the diagram, but
there's not much on the circuit.
I did once blow a main fuse my sister's friend's MX-6 while changing her
oil. My strap wrench shorted a cable while on the filter. There was a
frayed wire coming from the alternator. It burned a hole through the filter
and halfway through the wrench handle.
By the way, she was not impressed.

What's a "main fuse"? Starters aren't fused.
