I think the topic was ABOUT speeches, not asking for everyone to give one.

I think it is great that 40 years or so ago Dr. King, whose
contribution we observe on Monday, BTW, and others were working hard
for equal rights.  And now, not so far in the future, we have elected
a black president.  Have we come a long way, or what?
I hope he does well.  I pray for him to make wise decisions.
