[Spridgets] Bon-Ami in the carb?

When the first small block Chevys came out the cars would often have a
difficult time seating the rings.
The dealers were told per a bulletin, to put a teaspoon of Bon-Ami (like
Comet) into the carb while the engine is running, and this would seat the
rings.
I have heard this from retired Chevy mechanics who worked during that era.
Sounds a bit unusual - but that might have been the way they approached
things back during that time?
