Eventually, technology becomes cheaper than the simpler, more elegant
solution.  Case in point; a wired keyboard can be purchased for about $7, but
a decent mechanical drafting pencil is $10 to $15.

As to weight, the Lotus Elise and Exige come with electrical windows because
they saved weight.

     Oddly enough, even the "economy" cars,--Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Nissan
     Versa, Chevy Aveo, Kia Rio, right down the line ALL have electric
windows!!
     Not only does that mean that they weigh more than they need to, with all
     the associated ills that brings, the windows will eventually quit
working.
