Michael,
It isn't simply a matter of cost. LCB headers are considered to be the best
desing for the 5-port head of an A-series engine. The 4-2-1 design is
considered to be preferable for the 8-port heads like the 1500. You would be
beetter off with a good LCB (the good ones tend to be more than the $150 you
mentioned -- APT shows them at $279) and having it ceramic coated inside and
out. Might want to get a O2 sensor bung welded into the three branches, too,
while you are at it. You can always have a plug in there.

APT has this to say on the topic:
One very important point regarding headers.
The Long Center branch is the type to use in 99% of all applications,
especially for road or vintage racing. The 3 into 1 type header was
developed originally for the big bore short stroke 970 S motors with a long
duration cam like a sprint or super sprint grind. This worked well in the
970 S case, it made some more top end power - above 8000 RPM!

For 99% of all cams now in use, either performance or race, the LCB header
will give much better overall performance, and especially will add more
torque in the low to mid range (right where you need it the most). Race
track testing has proven the LCB to give quicker lap times. Unless you are
running at the salt flats only, use an LCB.
