This guy simply did not have the right tool for the job.  He was the tin man 
in the Wizard of Oz.   A VW jack/lug kit contains the correct security 
adapter/stud to fit it - there are only around 6 varieties and all Audi / VW 
dealers and a lot of other garages have them.  You count the number of 
splines needed to fit the adapter and go buy one.  Cost is around 8 to 10 
dollars.  If you are in the trade you'll get a full range kit for around 
25-30 bucks.  You can even hammer a piece of 1/2 inch square bar in the hole 
if you are really stuck and it will deform enough to grip sufficiently to 
use a socket wrench to remove it.

His comment about tyre dealers not wanting to do anything and one had welded 
something to it that broke off has to be an invention.  Where is the heat 
staining from the weld or is there a new cold weld system that leaves no 
trace when it breaks off that we know nothing about?
