Not sure if I shared this with the list. .

I was telling someone about this today om email so I thought I would copy
and paste the story to the list as well. . as we were discussing gun laws,
etc a little while back.

It is the first of the year, January the 9th - 09. . . I am flying to LA for
a business meeting. The previous week I was up in Yreka, which is the
border area between California and Oregon.

When I travel long distance by car I carry.

I forgot to clean out my travel bag - so when going through the inspection
zone into the boarding area the guy running the x-ray machine stops and
takes me over to the side.

I am convinced that I have nothing to worry about. Not so, I left 6 or 7 9
mm semi auto rounds in my travel bag from the previous trip up to Yreka.

A cop came over and began to question me. I told my story, that I was up in
a forested area while on a trip and that I had planned to do some target
shooting, and how I forgot to clean out my travel bag prior to packing for
my trip.

The guy running the x-ray machine was not allowed to touch the rounds, only
the cop could touch them for removal. They treated the rounds like they
were radioactive or something! Fortunately the cop was a super nice guy and
I got off.

It was a harrowing experience as I stood there thanking myself that I
remembered to remove the Glock before I left.

I pulled the gun (Glock 19) out of the bag soon as I got home from Yreka,
and locked it up in a small safe that sits under the bed. Easy access
little safe that I can get to in a hurry. But it did run through my mind -
what would have happened if for some reason I had also left the Glock in the
bag with the rounds? No doubt they would have hauled me off.

They said that I might get a fine from the Transportation Safety Board or
"T.S.A." It is now the end of April and I have not heard anything, so I
guess I am (hopefully) off the hook.
