Michael,
Hey, that's minor-leage stuff compared to this one:
While building our race car, about 30 years ago, my racing partner and I
were installing the front cross-member (MGB). I had spent some time
cleaning up the four special bolts/studs (lock nuts go on each end), to
ensure an accurate torquing. I was on a creeper under the car, while my
partner worked from the top side (in our defense; it was late and a lot of
beer had been consumed during this particular work session). The dialogue,
after several minutes on the first bolt, went something like this:
Partner: "Say Oz, how's it going down there?"
Me: "Really smooth, Wang (Jim "Bif" Wangler, my late partner). DAMN, I'm
good (meaning that I had done such a superb job of cleaning up the threads
on those bolts)........how's it look on that end".
Partner: "Incredible. I can't even feel any movement through the wrench"
Several more minutes passed, and my arms were about rerady to fall off, from
holding the wrench above my head.
Me: "Man! We should be out of threads by now. Can you work a little
faster?"
Partner: "Whada ya mean work a little faster? I'm just backing you up,
while you spin your wrench."
Me: "No, numb-nutz.......I'M backing you up, while you spin YOUR wrench."
Partner: "Ahhhh. It is all so clear, now."

Meanwhile, from the other side of the car could be heard the muffled
laughter (finally released) of our good friend & chief body man for
F-Production Nat'l Champion Bob Criss: Jim Biery, who did the body and paint
work for us...........thus assuring that we'd never live this one down, and
that we'd hear a LOT MORE about it at the next SCCA Steel Cities Region
membership meeting........and we sure DID hear a lot more about it.

So, Michael, don't be too embarrassed, because I suspect we ALL have a few
of those types of skeletons somewhere in our closets ;)

Bud Osbourne
