ok , i can give first hand info on these. i have a very old one from the 60's in my bugeye. if you are expecting the smooth operation like a clutch disc friction type of unit , forget it! they DO work! BUT! when the diff carrier locks or unlocks it has a tendancy to make the rear of the hop sideways a bit when cornering. you need to learn when to expect this to happen and acomodate it in your driving style. it forces you to be very smooth and consistant in your cornering! and if you are racing also you become more aware of traffic around you due to the nature of the detroit locker. you can not be a choppy , on the throttle , off the throttle driver in corners. i would not trade off the unit i have now that i'm acustomed to it. but i would not reccomend it to anyone without some serious practice driving in and out of corners in order to learn it's tendancies! it is just as tough on axles as a welded carrier too!
