[Spridgets] Alternator

My alternator light is blinking on and off even at medium RPM's.  What should I be looking for?
1.  Bad wiring?  
2.  Old pulley on new generator too large.  Is the difference in size between old (generator) and new (alternator) pulley enough to matter?
3.  Brand new alternator is bad.  My multimeter is reading 17V from the battery alone, so I have to get a new one.
