Ok, the consensus is that I should weld up the old clutch pedal or get another one. I am in fact in the process of getting a replacement pedal from Roger C from here on the list, but in the meantime I really needed to use the car, so here's the repair...

Ok, first, you CAN change out the push rod (on the '68 cars) without pulling the master. Remove the boot, and you should see a snap ring (Harbor Freight sells a snap ring plier set cheap) remove the ring, and the push rod and washer come out. Put your new push rod and washer back in, and make sure the snap ring sets completely.
You will need to pull the pedal box, to remove the pedal. Take it to a welding shop, and have them weld up the hole. You need to drill the hole out to 21/32 (I also just did this to ours, but it wasn't NEAR as bad as yours) and most hardware stores will have a new 5/16 clevis for you.

I guess welding a proper hole onto the end of the clutch pedal would be the tidyest thing to do. But I don't do welding. What I think I want to do at least at first is go after the hole with some bits of metal and lots of JB Weld. Also, I see that I probably have to un-mount the entire MC support structure to get the clutch MC off, to get the push rod out, which looks like no fun, so I will probably opt to do some sort of repair on the existing push rod as well. Or is there a way to get that push rod out with dissecting the whole thing? I am just back from the (closing this year) Moss store in Dover, NJ, and have a new push rod in hand.
OR, does anyone have a spare clutch pedal they can part with?
