David,
Ive bought quite a few new tires from them, in the past 18 months (for
my Golf, wifes Passat, my 356 & Midget) and, except for the frustration
I previously described, its been all good. Usually, I look them up on
the Tire Rack website and have my buddy order them, through his
business. That way, he gets a modest commission, and my cost is about
the same. This time, however, I placed the order because I knew hed be
swamped with winding down Pittsburgh Vintage GP (hes the chairman &
race director).
My conversation with TireRack.coms customer relations guy was very
satisfactory, and they will continue to get most of my tire business (at
least until my oldest son takes over running an NTB store closer to me
;)

Bud,
Sorry to hear about your bad experience there. I've never been to their
facility, but bought four or five sets of tires from them when I lived
in Nashville. Generally, my experiences were great and went like this:
I would order a set of tires for a great price and they would deliver to
my place of work. I'd then take the tires to my friend's recapping shop
at quitting time (with a six-pack for his crew) and I'd have four tires
magically mounted, balanced, and be on my way. Unfortunately, I have yet
to find a buddy with a shop here on Long Island where a suitable
substitute mounting procedure can be practiced...

I have not yet tried to buy Spridget sized tires from them. Everything
I bought there was for a Miata, a Corrado, a Nissan pickup, or a Subie
wagon. I always knew the sizes I was going for before-hand so never
used their suggestions for sizes.

they ignored my instructions on where they could not put weights as they

representative made such an ass of himself the at the autocross event
following day that none of my cars and none of my money will ever cross
their threshold again.

If they were to do this, I would think they would require a Bugeye, at
least
one model of SWA and an RWA to do it right.
