Unfortunately, it has been some time since he took it out. He has some questions that I am hoping someone can help us with. For the top bolts 1) What are the dimensions of the distance tube in the top? 2) Does it actually go through the window frame? 3) From the manuals it looks like the bolt goes in from the top, is that correct? 4) Is the nut a standard nut or is it beveled? For the bottom 3 center nuts, bolts and washers: 1) Are they standard bolts and washers? Spitfires of the same year use wedge shaped washers and Chrome Domed Bolts, but they are visible and they don't seem to be on the GT6. 2) The holes seem large for the bolts he thinks goes in them. Are there sleeves in for the bottom bolts? There does not seem to be in the manuals. For the top Seal. 1) There is kind of a square block at each end of the seal, is that really supposed to be there? I know this is a lot of questions all at once, but any help would be appreciated. Also, the carbon canister complicated things a bit. In the non-US cars, a short hose went directly from the breather valve on the manifold to the valve cover. I had to put a Tee in that line to hook up the carbon canister purge line, and the result is a bit kludgy-looking. BTW, the MV-IV era spits never really had "positive crankcase ventilation". There was a connection from the valve cover to the carbs or manifolds to suck out the blowby, but there is nothing to allow fresh air into the crankcase to replace it. You just end up with a slight vacuum in the crankcase, and air being sucked in through various nooks and crannies. Mabye they improved this on the 1500 models; I don;t really know. But the weather is 87 degrees and clear, except for the Tree Pollen! I'll retire for good this week. Then I can marry my 1978 Spitfire tub to the 1973 GT6 MkIII frame and supercharged engine. Can anyone direct me to a SU reference so I can identify the model SU carb that I have? I think that I have a HIF. If you are unhappy, remember that it will not be a whole lot different when installed. If I was doing it over, I would try to make a new bases from a high-density foam. Or maybe a professional shop would easily be able to do it right. Doug On Mon, Mar 21, 2011 at 8:25 PM, Don Wankel wrote: > I've got the polyurethane blocks. My Spits have unfortunately and sadly become what is known as "Sitters". My 76 Carmine Red 1500 has been perched on the upper rack in my storage garage for over two years now. Nice spot, heated and all, but it has not seen much asphalt for several years now. I had a guy give me a quote to finally install the NOS Frame I have leaning against the wall of the lower garage but at 10 large I have too be nuts to do that. It is however my first Triumph so I don't know for sure. It is a dead nut original example that may be worth that if perfect. The 70 Spit is tucked up in the corner of the lower garage. I get it out at least once a year and get it to run. It is now so highly modified for autocross that driving on the street is not very pleasant. And as I have grown old now I don't autocross at all. So I have been thinking about bringing it back for the street some by at least dumping the 455 diff. But I would need to pay for that too. It's a bitch getting old. I once did all this myself. Well err most of it. On the brighter side the 70 GT6+ has no issues and I drive it a lot before the weather gets hot. The TR250 is coming out newly restored this summer and I will drive it a lot. I can still do that! The TR6 is good and the TR4 rocks. The Wedges will still go but are mostly "Sitters" too.
