Is that notch in the bottom of the brass collar meant to be used with a tool to remove the cartridge?</div>

I need to replace at least the cold cartridge in our shower--probably just do both IF I can find replacements. I do not know how old this system is but assume 40+ years, maybe 50.</div>

This is what it looks like before full removal. At this stage in disassembly, it looks nothing like any of the videos I have looked at online. </div>

I can find no markings to ID the system. </div>
