This is a real problem. I don't envy you. Last I had to
rebuild a computer, it took<br>
me about 4 days, to get the old software reloaded and everything
configured.<br><br>
The way MS loads programs now, in multiple places (directory) plus the
registry vs<br>
the old .ini files makes it impossible to move most programs from a
functioning <br>
drive to a 2nd drive. You will have to reinstall most
applications.<br><br>
So the best way to make a clone of the original hard drive.<br><br>
There was/is a program called GHOST that would let you make a clone of a
drive.<br>
The 1st generations required that the 2 drives (source and destination)
be the <br>
same size. Later generations lifted that restriction as long as the
destination was <br>
equal to or greater than the source drive.<br><br>
This used to be the best way to make a backup of your system and or set
up a <br>
new hard drive.<br><br>
I've been looking for a good/recient version of GHOST to use to make a
backup<br>
of my working HD. Everyonce in a while I'll spend an hour or so
looking up GHOST<br>
and or cloning a HD. So far I haven't found much that I thought
would do the job,<br>
or it was more for a commercial environment and the cost is
outragious.<br><br>
If anyone has any ideas for a GHOST program or where to get it, please
let us<br>
know.<br><br>
