Is this west-facing location facing the TV station? Is it on all stations? How far are you from the stations? Try putting the antenna on the wall facing the stations. I cut the cord several years ago & installed an antenna on the roof. I?m about 40 miles to the stations & had trouble with pixilation & complete dropout at times. I added an antenna-mounted amplifier & now get very few problems, usually first thing in the morning when it is foggy. Not related to your question, but I have a box that connects my antenna to my network & contains 4 tuners. I use a computer to record the shows I want to watch, then watch them on my tv whenever I feel like it. This allows me to put the antenna on the far end of the house where the reception is better. Their suggestions about location and orientation are 100% on point. Especially in rural situations there's no substitute for a well designed high gain directional antenna placed as high as pointed at the broadcast site. The world of OTA (Over The Air) broadcasts has changed tremendously in the fairly recent past. One of the best tools I've seen for getting an idea of the OTA stations in a given area is . In addition, take the reception ranges listed with a big dose of salt! Hopefully it will confirm the channels that should be available and give similar results to the https://www.antennasdirect.com/ link shared by another lister.? I have an older version of the ClearStream MAX serving my office TV, mounted outside on a balcony with direct line of site to the transmitter towers 36 miles away.? Oddly I've lost all the major networks.? A rescan only got me 35 channels, most foreign language stations. (Los Angeles area).? Years ago I had 130+ channels. I have an older version of the ClearStream Flex indoor antenna pinned to the back of the entertainment center in my living room. Have not used it in several years and some of the channels didn't work.? I rescanned and they came back.? I'm assuming the frequencies shifted.? The rescan got me 87 channels. I'm wondering now if I have some corrosion in one of the connectors on the much better outdoor antenna since it now has worse reception than my little indoor antenna.? You might want to check the same thing.? If you have an old rabbit ear antenna, you could also try that.? I used one for several years following the digital TV change. I agree with other responses that sun is not likely an issue in terms of signal interference.? Sun may degrade the antenna materials leading to corrosion though. The VHF band has gone away for TV use but tho old UHF/VHF antennas should work. Basically what I?m saying is that if you have an older UHF/VHF antenna up, just because it doesn?t say digital, it should work fine. All antennas decrease signal strength as they age, the insulators get leaky & the elements corrode which can decrease their ability to receive. Depending on where you are, you may need an tenna you can rotate, but getting it high enough might work. I put a directional antenna in my attic. It?s pointing at the distant station antenna tower, the closer stuff is powerful enough that it?s still got good reception. > On Aug 8, 2025, at 22:38, Tim . wrote: > > ? > Knowing how large the knowledge base is here I am hoping someone can help........ > > I cut the cable a couple years ago and bought an over the air digital antenna. The bolts I could find that fit the threaded holes in the walls were too long. No problem, just whip up some spacers. Found an old piece of plastic rod that just happened to have the right size hole already. Just need to cut it in half to make two shorter spacers. No problem, I'll just chuck it in the lathe and zip through it with a parting tool. Long story short - I can not find a parting tool, or any lathe tooling for that matter. I think I know where I last had that sort of stuff, including a multi-hundred dollar live center that fit the old LOgan just fine. So, where can one go online to find lathe tooling for home hobbyists? It has been many years since I've needed to buy any such stuff. Any recommendations? I do NOT want Amazon, please. Grainger? mjb. I ordered some items Wednesday morning, they were at my door Friday afternoon. And just what I wanted! Of course I had already dealt with the issue of appropriate washers for the original problem, but it is always fun to buy new tools! mjb.
