[Shop-talk] Plow oil

I just went through this a few years ago. I have a 1980's vintage Western
plow that originally used a western fluid that is compatible with 5606.
5606 is a fine hydraulic fluid, to a point. It is only good down to a
certain temperature and it is somewhat susceptible to absorbing water. A
couple years ago I did a bunch of research and found that Buyers "Blue"
hydraulic fluid was compatible with 5606. It is a lower temp rating (down
below -50F) and supposed to be more stable for long term storage. So I
drained, flushed and refilled my plow setu with this stuff. Not too
expensive, I can get it locally, and it has worked great so far. I drained
and refilled the plow Saturday, and the fluid looked like new.
