I’ve had a couple 90 degree drill adapters (with a drill chuck on the end). They work, more or less. They have pretty low torque limits, and I broke one boring floor joists. (100 year old pine is hard; bit stuck, gear train went boom) I got a real right angle drill, which is vastly superior. But for a few holes, an adapter will be okay. They’re not precision tools, but that’s probably not important for you.
The right angle impact driver adapters are cheaper, and have the same problems. (They work great for screws, though). I might go that way, with a spade bit.
