[Shop-talk] Extension cord length vs. wire gauge

Hey!  There's no shame in using an electric chainsaw.  Only those with a shaky confidence level in his manhood would feel emasculated using an electric chainsaw.

Electric makes a lot of sense for a power tool that is used infrequently.  Gas goes bad, carbs foul up, oil goes stale.  All these issues go away with electric.
The 10 volt drop I predicted in a previous post will result in a slightly slower chainsaw but you may not even notice.

Dave (I have an electric chainsaw and I use it every couple of years, briefly)

Sigh. I have to admit this in a public forum?
It's a power tool. Comparable to a chainsaw. I wanted the gas version, but I'll use it maybe twice a year, it's $40 vs. $200, and the electric one is about half the weight.
I never thought I'd be the sort of person to own one of these, but here I am...

Guys,
I need about 300 get of extension cord. 16 AWG was fine at 100 ft. Can I string 3 of those together without a problem, or should I go up a size? Draw is 4 amps.

What sort of load? Resistive, or ?
What sort of duty cycle?
What sort of duration?
In general, it's probably ok, but still wouldn't hurt to have some details.
