    As in, 'everything was marked 1 7/8' or as in 'I have measured 
everything and it actually is 1 7/8'.

    When something seems impossible and doesn't make sense, I start 
measuring.  I usually find that something isn't what I was sure it was. 
And we are talking HF here, so tolerances are what, +/- 1/4"?
