I think that depends on your definition of "incredibly low", but
according to the CDC, about 2/3rds of a million people acquire
infections in our hospitals, and about 75,000 die as a result. Annually.
( 11% fatality rate, btw, so IF you get an infection in a hospital,
there's 1 chance in 9 that you never leave... these are nasty bugs. )

Hate to say it, but an awful lot of our medical professionals are
incompetent. Of the last 12 x-rays I personally know of, 10 were either
shot wrong, or read wrong, or both. My mom fell last year, and had 3
x-rays done and read by four different doctors. They concluded she had 0,
1, 2, and finally 3 broken ribs. I had a doctor tell me I broke my elbow,
then I didn't, then I did... and I had to show her how an arm sling works.
She also tried to get me hooked on some nice opioids, even though I had
little pain. But she was one of the 92% of doctors who take kick-backs
from the pharmaceutical industry, so it's not like my well-being was her
primary concern.

Okay, rant off, but be careful which doctor(s) you trust. They do a
lot more harm than their oath allows.
