I’m now somewhere in between cheap & good in my purchases. I’m not one to buy high end stuff because I don’t use it professionally but stuff I use a lot tend to be better grade, such as battery operated power tools & electronics.
I turned 70 this year & realize that I don’t have to buy stuff that lasts forever. My son isn’t interested in my stuff so I am moving to the cheaper tools as needed. I had a Shop fire in January & much of my stuff got damaged. I will be overhauling my stationary woodworking machines but will have to give thought to even replacing other tools.
My parents are still living on their own in their mid 90’s & doing great, so I expect to have at least another 20 years. Time will tell how much I’ll “need” in the future.
Having a fire helps clean out space so you can either restart your collections or even head off in a different direction.
Peace,
Pat

Doug, I understand what you are saying about quality tools and I agree. However, I'm finding it more often that that what used to be top quality tools are close the same stuff you find from HF. (of course with the premium hand tools that isn't the case) but with cordless tools and other items (like air hose reels) it seem that the name on the sticker is the only different in some cases.
