[Shop-talk] Breakaway cabinet hinges?

Does it absolutely need to be a breakaway hinge? Blum makes several
hinges that swing 165-170 degrees that might work for you. They're
typically used on cabinets with pull-out drawers where you need an
obstruction-free opening.

Alternatively, how about constructing your own breakaway hinges? Instead
of securing the hinge to the face plate with screws, how about using a
pair of neodymium magnets? If you have a 1" face frame, you can install
a recessed 3/8" dia x 1/2" cylindrical neodymium magnet behind each
hinge. That'll be plenty strong enough to hold the cabinet doors in
place but it'll still break away if torqued sufficiently.

We use 35mm European hinges. Anyone know of compatible hinges that would allow the doors to just pop off? The face frames are getting where they will need to be replaced. I mentioned just removing the doors but she said "That's a man's way of dealing with it......NO". Yes dear.
