The HF kit I got claimed to be nitrile rubber (Buna-N).  I've not tried any specific tests, but I've been using them for years and not seen any deterioration.  Looking at the web site, I see them offered in not only nitrile, but also Viton and hydrogenated nitrile (HNBR).  What I don't see is EPDM.

Home Depot also has a fair assortment of individual O-rings for around $.80/each.  Probably mostly EPDM (for plumbing work), but they might have other types as well.  I'm sure Lowes, OSH & Menards have them as well.
