I've had great luck with the electric rat/mouse traps put out by Victor. 
They run on batteries and give the varmints a jolt around 10,000 volts. 
When it is mouse season we get at least one a day, which thins them out 
in a hurry. I bought ours at Tractor Supply, but you should be able to 
find the just about anywhere. Cost, about $50.
