Why not pull the chuck off and see?  My 3/8 Craftsman had the standard
threaded spindle, but that doesn't mean they all do.

If it's a reversible drill, there will likely be a left hand thread SHCS
that is accessible through the jaw opening.  Once that's removed, just stick
a chuck key or similar rod into one of the chuck holes, and give it a sharp
rap to unscrew the chuck.
